We celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on 17th March every year, which is the date of his death. The day is pretty much celebrated worldwide.
What Do We Know About St. Patrick
St. Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland. Our popular Irish belief is that St. Patrick introduced Christianity to Ireland, banished the snakes from the Island and used the three leaf Shamrock to teach the Holy Trinity.
We have a number of traditions when it comes to celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.
- We wear green – it’s a pretty obvious one, but we wear anything green, from glasses to hats and in some cases people wear the Irish Flag as a cape almost. We also choose to wear a small bunch of Shamrock on the right breast. The Shamrocks are blessed by local Priests and Bishops. It represents our Irish roots and it’s a traditional connection to St. Patrick.
- It’s a Holy day – a lot of the older generations would attend a religious service as a celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
- We go to the Parades – St. Patrick’s Day is a day of parades all over Ireland, every town/city have their own celebrations but a lot of people travel to Dublin as they go all out as the Capital of Ireland.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!! Enjoy and Drink Sensibly!!!
